Contents of the database
Currently the site offers 238 images, in jpeg format.
How to view images
Click on the 'View Images' tab above.
This runs a default search, returning all items. These are shown as thumbnail images, and the navigation provides links between pages of results.
Viewing full-size images
- Click on an image thumbnail or its title to see the record for that item.
- The record page shows the image on the left, and a full description on the
right.
- Click on the 'View' link to see a larger version in a pop-up window. (Your browser might shrink the image to fit the window, click on it to show at full-size.)
- The navigation offers links to the next and previous images in the current search results.
How to search the database
- Click on the 'View Images' tab above.
- Filter the default search results by choosing from the drop-down list of different formats and/or by doing a free-text search.
- Click the 'Reset' button to clear all filters and show all images again.
- We regret that custom searches cannot be saved, and the sort order of results (by title) cannot be changed at the present time.
Using the free-text search
- Use * for wildcard searches (e.g. politic*)
- By default, will search for each word typed into the text box
- Put quotes around words to search for an exact phrase (e.g. "reform bill")
- Will ignore commonly used words, such as the or and etc.
For example, the search will match "black white" with a record containing the text "black and white"
- Searches are not case-sensitive.
- Search terms cannot include these special characters: - ( ) [ ] & ? !
- Free text search targets all descriptive fields, including title, description, keywords and source id.
Conditions of use
Please note that these conditions of use apply to all images
and the user implicitly agrees to these terms when viewing items in the resource.
For some collections we require the user's explicit acknowledgement of these and any
additional restrictions, and this is why a small number of records will prompt the user before
displaying the full image.
Obtaining copies of the images
If you wish to use any of the images for purposes other than personal use, please
contact us. High resolution copies may be available on request.

Please try to include as much information about the search as possible, so we can recreate it and identify the error.
